La Grande Ferme can also be read through the traces preserved beneath the ground. Archaeological work east of the present house has revealed layers associated with earlier buildings, including remains linked to the house enlarged in 1685, traces of floors and hearths, and a distinct burned layer connected with the attack of 1759. These discoveries remind us that the museum’s history is preserved not only in the building that still stands, but also in the soil, where successive generations left material traces of daily life and major events.
